In honor of Mercury Books, the very first Mercury Book → Luca Pacioli: Ancient Double-Entry Bookkeeping, re-designed, re-issued, and published by Mercury.

Pacioli's Summa de Arithmetica is the text credited with introducing double-entry accounting. Five hundred years later, his system is still sitting underneath modern accounting — it's why a ledger has two sides.

Working with Studio Lin, we reimagined the 1914 English translation, Ancient Double Entry Bookkeeping, as a conversation between the old text and the new one.

The 1914 translation is re-typeset in Mercury’s own Arcadia font. Pacioli's original pages printed on silver paper, ours on white, with purple typography marking passages that have seen updates. The book is Swiss-bound in cloth, designed to lie completely flat.

Pacioli’s method gave us the foundation. Mercury Books gives founders clean books that stay current.
